Helen “Nitsa” Sporidis of Potomac, Maryland passed away on Friday,
October 25, 2019 in Potomac Maryland. She was 83 years old.
She is survived by her children Lydia Sporidis-Trello, Harry Sporidis
(Christina), and her four grandchildren: Rachel Sporidis Trello, Skyler, John
Helen will be celebrated for her courage, tenacity, and unbending loyalty to
those she loved. Uncommonly intuitive and boldly independent, Helen was an
ever-present source of strength, comfort, and guidance to her children,
grandchildren, and all those she inspired along the way.
Helen Anastassios Sendoukas was born in Constantinople (Istanbul), Turkey. She
attended Ioakeimion High School for Girls in Constantinople, and later traveled
to Italy to study at a teacher training program run by Maria Montessori. Helen
immigrated to the United States in February 1960 with her then fiancé, John H.
Sporidis to attend college at Howard University. The two were married later
that month, and she later went onto become a teacher at St. Constantine and
Helen in Washington DC.
Helen was truly a woman before her time and the memory of her spirit will live
on through her children, grandchildren, and all those who knew her.
A private service will be held in November 13, 2019 in the St. Louis Friary
located in Washington, DC.
