Tara Behari Singh
August 12, 1926 – September 27, 2019
A Life well Lived, a Life well Loved
Tara Behari Singh (“Mamma, Dadi, Dadoo”) passed peacefully in her sleep of natural causes at her son, Arun’s house on September 27th, 2019, at the age of 93, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She died at home surrounded by family which is what she had always wanted. She told us long ago that she had lived a full life and had gotten to see so much joy and felt we were all accomplished enough that her work here was done and that she was always ready for the Lord to take her when he wanted to call for her. She is survived by her eldest son, Arun Kumar Singh (Aruna Singh), her son Dalip Kumar Singh (Renuka Singh), and her grandchildren: Ashina Singh (Scott Childers), Ashwin Singh, Alka Singh (Kashif Henderson), Aanchal Singh, Ashish Singh, Anuraag Singh, Anjali Singh and step-grandchild Rejul Singh and great-grandson: James Aansh Childers. She is now at rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her late husband Mr. Behari Singh, her daughter in law Anjana Singh and her two sons.
Tara Singh was born on August 12, 1926 in the city of Aligarh, India. When she finished her studies she married Mr. Behari Singh on October 12, 1953 in Aligarh. She moved to Old Delhi at that time and that is where her sons were born, she lost two of them at a very young age but she was blessed with two more. They were the pride and joy of her life and she provided for them at all costs. She immigrated to America shortly after her sons had children to help take care of her grandchildren who became the new pride and joys of her life. She invested time, hide and go seek games, imparted crocheting and knitting skills, modeled for multiple crayon sketches and gave her unconditional love and most times uninhibited advice to her grandchildren. God, Jesus and the written word held a very special place in her heart and she was a member of several churches throughout her time in the U.S., including Christian Life Center, Epworth United Methodist, and New Testament Church. Regularly attending worship services and engaging in bible study and prayer meetings. Spreading the gospel was in her blood.
She was the quiet matriarch of the Singh family with her always unifying message to the family that no matter how far away anyone moved or went away for school – that we would always be family and to always be there for one another and to love one another deeply. She had a generous spirit and soul and gave everything of herself to her family and friends. Tara had experienced several decades here on this earth and had adapted beautifully to the changing world around her and even as she learned to use a cellphone or the TV Guide or look at pictures of her grandkids on Facebook; what never changed was the joyful, honest, humble and generous spirit that she was. 93 years of a life well lived and a life full of love that she gave so generously and humbly of to all those she met.
Friends may offer their final respects at Epworth United Methodist Church, 9008 Rosemont Drive, Gaithersburg, MD on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery, Germantown, MD.
