John Hugh Taylor
John Hugh Taylor passed away on September 7, 2019 at Olney Assisted Living after a brief illness. Born on February 6, 1928 in Madison, Indiana, John joined the Navy Seabees at the age of 17, serving during WWII. Upon discharge, he obtained his GED, and joined the army, serving during the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Angelina Casamento (Ann), at a USO dance in Washington, DC and married her in 1951. He retired from active duty in 1953 after being injured while stationed at Ft. Meade. Following his honorable discharge, John became a Master Barber in 1955 and was hired by Noone’s Barber Shop on Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, MD. He went on to buy the business in 1969, which he maintained for almost 30 years. After closing his shop, he worked for Georgetown Barbers, followed by Hair Systems. He finally retired and put away his barber shears and clippers in 2015.
John was married to his beloved wife for 58 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, his son Col. John Michael Taylor USMC and his son’s wife Judy Lee Taylor. Survivors include his son, Patrick A. Taylor (Margy), daughter Sue Ann Ketchum (Skip), 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, his sister Betty Jean Standerford, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
John was a life member of American Legion Post 0068 as well as Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 284 and Post 341.
