May 13, 1926 - August 29, 2019

Lydia was born in Arlington, VA to her late parents, Jesse A. and Gladys E. Boyle (nee Thomas). She was married to the late Innis R. (Randy) Skinner for 56 years.  She is the mother of Sharon D. and Donald R. Skinner.  She graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington.  She also studied piano, organ and voice as well as participating in seminars and workshops in choral directing and children’s choirs.

She worked for the Children’s Bureau, Federal Security Agency and U.S. Department of Labor, 1944-1952. She served as a church soloist and part-time professional singer at clubs in the Washington area, at the Soreno Hotel in St. Petersburg, FL, the Crawford House in Crawford Notch, NH, and at the Maryland Grand Sessions of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She was church organist at the Hughes United Methodist Church, 1955-60; assistant organist 1960-90; director of children and youth choirs 1960-85.  She played the piano and sang on many occasions at the Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, MD where she resided since 1991.

In addition to music, Lydia enjoyed walking and traveling.  She was a member of the National Choristers’ Guild; a member of the former Kensington Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; and the Chancel Choir of Hughes church.  She volunteered over 1000 hours to the Prevention of Blindness Society.

Friends may call at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 on Thursday, September 5, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm.  Funeral services will be held at Hughes United Methodist Church, 10700 Georgia Avenue, Wheaton, MD 20902 on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 10 am.  Interment and graveside services will be held be held at National Memorial Park Cemetery,  7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
