CAROLYN MARCIA VAN DER WEELE (nee Hinds)
December 27, 1946 - May 2, 2019
Born and raised in Oak Ridge, Tennessee where she was a pep squad member in middle and high school, graduating in 1964 from Oak Ridge high school.
Carol was an accomplished rider and a proud member of the Cotillion and president of East Tennessee Riding club. Her expertise in handling showhorses, gated saddle breed provided her opportunities to compete in Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. She also wrote a column for the Kentucky-based national horseman magazine and contributed articles for Saddle and Bridle in Kentucky.
She later moved to Maryland where she worked for Comsat labs for 14 years. Carol finished her work career as an Administrative Assistant for the Montgomery County Extension Service.
Carol was also active in the Jaycee Women. She was recognized as one of the top local chapter President and made countless friends throughout the country. She also served the Maryland state and US Jaycee women as program manager for Juvenile Diabetes; Muscular Dystrophy; Cystic Fibrosis and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Her involvement took her to 12 states as well as the Jaycees World Congress in Taipei, Taiwan.
Her hobbies include bowling, crafting, gardening and cooking (especially baking Christmas cookies). She enjoyed watching and attending sporting events, being partial to hockey.
However her favorite past time revolved around being with, talking about, posting about and enjoying her grandchildren and great grandson. THEY WERE HER WORLD!!
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, William (Bill) C. Van Der Weele of Gaithersburg, MD; son John C. Louthan of Frederick, MD; son William Matthew Van Der Weele and wife Kristina of Gaithersburg, MD; a brother, Henry Ray “Bud” Hinds Jr. and wife Valerie, of Oak Ridge, TN; grandchildren Aeric Christopher Louthan of Hooversville, PA, Jordan Davis Louthan of Hooversville, PA Kyle Austin Louthan of Hooversville, PA; Mariah Nicole Van Der Weele of Gaithersburg, MD, William Tyler Van Der Weele of Gaithersburg, MD; great grandson Aiden Christopher Louthan of Hooversville, PA.
The family will be receiving visitors on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg, MD from 2:00-4:00pm
& 6:00-8:00 pm. She will be laid into eternal and peaceful rest on Thursday May, 9th 2019 at 11:00am, All Souls Cemetery, Germantown, MD.
