Joseph Lawrence Chory, 86, of Derwood, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2018. Loving and devoted husband to the late Mary Lou (Wilson) Chory, beloved father of Deborah Chory, Joseph Donald Chory, Janet Chory, Leslie (Chory) Danaker, son-in-law John (Jack) Danaker, and adoring grandfather of Joseph Danaker and Anthony Marcellino. The eighth of twelve children, he was born on February 24, 1932, in Dilliner, Greene County, PA, to George Chory (Csóri) and Mary (Adams) Chory. He is survived by his brother Michael and sister Joanne Lizambri, and predeceased by Mary Brown Tripodi, Theresa, Elmer, Edward, George, Ethel Kasmarcik, Virginia Hudik, Henry, and infant John Jacob. Graduating in 1949 from Point Marion High School, PA, Joseph came to Washington DC where after working for the FBI, he began a life-long career in printing and photography working for National Lithograph, the GPO, and retiring from the CIA after 25 years of distinguished service and totaling over 30 years of Federal service. Joseph was a life-long member of the Graphic Arts International Union. ‘Joe’ was an avid gardener, collector, comfort food chef, wood and art hobbyist, and was cherished for his gregarious nature, loyal friendships, warmth, wit and sense of humor. A private burial service will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
