Marie Cotten Thompson, 92, of Germantown, MD, passed away on July 6, 2018.  Born in Washington, DC to her late parents Viola and Fred Cotten.  She was predeceased by her brothers, Fred Cotten, Jr. and Maurice Cotten.  In 1942, Marie was inducted into the National Honor Society.  She received her Bachelor’s degree from Howard University and a Master’s in education from the University of Chicago.  She also studied at the American Academy in Rome, Italy.  Marie taught Latin, Spanish and Humanities at Kelly Miller Jr. High, Paul Jr. High and Woodson Sr. High Schools.  After retiring from D.C. Public Schools, Marie taught Latin for another 12 years at National Cathedral School for Girls.  Marie also developed the first Humanities Program for the District of Columbia.   After marrying the late Charles Allen Thompson, Sr. on June 30, 1949, Marie was a dedicated mother to her three loving children. She enjoyed movies, crossword puzzles, surfing the internet for new and interesting books, as well as spending time with her family.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Beloved mother of Carol Moulton (nee Thompson), Charles Allen Thompson, Jr., and Christopher Andrew Thompson; cherished grandmother of Christopher Anthony Gordon (Mimi), Christiana Thompson, Candace Thompson, William Taylor, and Stephanie Newby; loving great-grandmother of Camron Gordon, Jamari Gordon, and Alex Gordon.  Loving aunt to Martin Cotten and Kerrie Cotten Williams. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church, 2015 Rhode Island Ave. NE, Washington, DC.  Interment to follow at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery.
