Lawrence Mackey “Butch” Butler II, 54, of Germantown, Maryland, passed away on June 22, 2018. Born in Ohio to the late Calma Jean Butler and Lawrence Mackey Butler, Butch graduated from Point Pleasant High School in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. He then went on to receive his Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry from the University of Maryland, as well as a Master’s of Science in Biotechnology and a Master’s in Business Administration, both from The Johns Hopkins University. Butch served in the U.S. Army as a Medic from 1989 to 1995, taking care of injured soldiers at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
Butch was an avid sports fan. He grew up loving Kentucky basketball, and the Cincinnati Reds. After making his home in Maryland, Butch fell in love with Baltimore, and spent countless hours watching his beloved Orioles and Ravens, and was a proud member of Terrapin Nation. When Butch wasn't cheering on the O's, Ravens or Terps, he was cheering on his boys. He spent every possible moment watching his oldest son, Mackey on the basketball court, and his youngest son, Aidan, on the baseball field. He loved to share their successes with his family, often texting and calling to brag about their accomplishments.
Butch made a major career change when he left the Engineering side of the Biotech world and found his true passion in Marketing and Sales. He essentially worked two full-time jobs to make this change possible, but once he got a taste of the business world, he never looked back. He used his broad science background, coupled it with his thirst for knowledge and personable disposition, and found success in the healthcare industry.
Butch was a loving husband to his wife of 20 years, Carrie Ann Butler. He was a devoted father of Lawrence “Mackey” Butler III and Aidan Michael Butler. He was a beloved brother of Margaret Biliter (Danny) of Richmond, Kentucky, and Anne Hammack (John) of Chesapeake, Ohio, and brother in law of Lisa Trierweiler (Walt) of Tallahassee, Florida, Robert Troni of Florida, and Amanda Kuenzle (Paul) of Parkland, Florida. He was a caring son in law of Barbara Troni of Coral Springs, Florida. He was a cherished uncle of Heather Esgro (William), Joshua Hammack (Heather), the late Sean Hammack, Rachael McQuarter (Johnathan), Patrick Trierweiler, Rose Biliter, Jessica Trierweiler, Jack Trierweiler, Robert Troni III, Jacob Kuenzle, Juliette Kuenzle, and Nicholas Kuenzle. He is also survived by three great-grand nieces and nephews and a large and loving extended family.
Viewings will be held Thursday, June 28, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Interment to be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be sent to his sons for a college fund that is currently being established to honor their late father's commitment and dedication to education. Donations may be mailed to: 13621 Autumn Trail Drive Germantown, MD 20874.
