Helen R. DeLawter passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Wilson Healthcare Center on the campus of Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, MD.
She was born Helen Edith Roe on March 18, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA to John Curwen Roe and Edith Moore Reynolds. She graduated from Kensington High School for Girls in 1935 and then from Protestant Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. She married DeWitt E. DeLawter in 1942 and they moved to Bethesda, MD after World War II where he practiced medicine for 40 years. They were active in the Montgomery County Medical Society and she served a term as president of the Women’s Auxiliary. They moved to Asbury Methodist Village in 2003 and she was widowed in 2007.
She is survived by 3 children: Dorothy Jones of Montgomery Village, MD, Virginia Krute of Poolesville, MD and DeWitt Jr. of Hingham, MA. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 11 great grand children.
A service will be held at St Mark's Lutheran Church, Smithsburg, MD Saturday, September 16 at 11 a.m. with burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Asbury Methodist Village Benevolent Fund.
