Michael Francis Conway, U.S. Navy (Ret.), 94, of Rockville, MD, passed away on July 8, 2017. Born to the late Anne and Patrick J. Conway in Trenton, New Jersey, in 1922. Michael joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He received many honors, including the National Defense Service Medal; campaign ribbons for the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and Philippine Liberation; World War II Victory Medal; and six Good Conduct Medals. He met his late wife Doris Mary Conway in Jersey City, New Jersey, at a skating rink. They later married, and he served as a devoted father to their five children. Michael loved his faith, family, and friends. He was an expert on all things Irish and was an avid storyteller. He knew every sports statistic and was a devoted Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals fan. An avid waterman, he loved to go crabbing and fishing. One of his favorite books was the Annual Almanac, and his favorite times were those when he was surrounded by family. Michael was very proud of his service in the U.S. Navy and was an active member at the American Legion Post 86.
Beloved husband of the late Doris Mary Conway; cherished father of the late Robert M. Conway (Joan), Kathleen A. Conway, Trish Napoli, Thomas J. Conway (Karyn), and James P. Conway (Anne Dinh); loving grandfather of 7 and great-grandfather of 5. Friends and family are welcome to visit on Thursday, July 13, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 520 Viers Mill Road, Rockville, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 14, at 10:00 a.m. Later inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery.
