Clara Digna Matos Cardenas, age 98, of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, 6th of May, 2017.
Clara, Clarita as she was known to family and friends, was born in Quemado de Güines, Cuba, 98 years ago to Porfirio Cardenas and Maria Elodia La Madrid. She was the sister of the late Jose L. Cardenas and the late Fermina D. Cardenas.
Clarita was loved and cherished by her late husband Idalberto W. Matos and was the loving, devoted mother of the late Hidalberto P. Matos, and (survived by) Mario A. Matos, Miriam C. Matos, Clara C. Matos, and her niece Delia M. Metauten whom she considered a daughter.
Clarita and Idalberto exhibited great courage when they decided to leave the only home they knew, Cuba, in the hope of a better life. She greatly suffered the separation of her family. It was through sheer love, self-sacrifice, determination and her firm belief in God that she was able to move heaven and earth to reunite her family after 15 years of separation. Nothing brought her more joy than being together with her family and watching the family grow.
She was a courageous, remarkable, and charismatic woman who was a pillar of strength for her family. She was the personification of perseverance, determination, strength and above all LOVE. No matter the challenge, she faced it with great faith, dignity, and her head held high.
She adored her six grandchildren; Lianette, Mario, Joycelyn, Sashaa, Gabryel, and Jose and eleven great-grandchildren; Mario Anthony, Alexa, Justin, William Anthony, Christian, Joshua, Caden, Victoria, Cassidy, Joseph, and Cevyn and her grandnephews Dwight and Devin.
Clarita was loved and adored by all who had the privilege and honor to meet her.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for all those who cared for her.
