On April 17, 2017, Mary Jane Von Moss passed away due to Parkinson’s Disease. Mary Jane was born June 29, 1934 in Richeyville, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Elmer Underwood and Charlotte Pentland Underwood. Robert Underwood and Esther Underwood were Mary Jane’s brother and sister. Mary Jane attended Centerville High School in Centerville, PA and graduated in 1952. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, PA in 1956 with a Bachelor of Education degree in Mathematics. She also obtained a Master of Education Degree in Mathematics in 1960 from the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania.
Mary Jane taught Mathematics at Centerville High School from1956 to 1958.
On August 4, 1962, she married Robert Richard Von Moss in Richeyville, PA. They traveled from Pittsburgh, PA to Los Angeles, CA where Mary Jane worked in a CPA office. In 1965 she and Robert moved to Maryland where Mary Jane also worked as a substitute teacher.
Robert W. Von Moss and Lawrence J. Von Moss are the children of Robert and Mary Jane. Her grandchildren are Matthew L. Von Moss, John S. Von Moss, Hannah Von Moss, and Daniel Von Moss.
Mary Jane was an elder in the Presbyterian Church.
Mary Jane loved the game of duplicate bridge. She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) and became a Silver Life Master. She was a bridge teacher and became President of the American Bridge Teacher’s Association (ABTA). She founded the Gaithersburg Bridge Club and directed at the club for 22 years. She also was a bridge cruise director.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 11:00AM at Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church, 610 South Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20877.
