Dorothy Ann O'Connell Kelly
Dorothy Ann Kelly, 89, passed away February 11, 2017 in Rockville, MD. She was the beloved wife of sixty two years of the late John E. Kelly Jr. She is survived by her children, Ann Marie Kelly, Claire Kelly-Schultze (William), and Michael Kelly (Kim). She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dorothy attended St Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana, where she met her future husband, who was a student at the University of Notre Dame. They married after her graduation and lived in Pasadena, CA where John was a Special Agent for the F.B.I. He was later promoted to F.B.I. Headquarters and they moved the family to Washington, D.C. Dorothy taught at the children’s elementary school, St Jane De Chantal in Bethesda, MD, where the family resided. After retiring from the F.B.I., they moved to the Orlando area where John became the Security Director for United Telephone. Dorothy was very active in the Church of the Annunciation, in Altamonte Springs, FLA, founding the women’s Sodality, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, and working with migrant workers. She also taught religion to Catholic students who attended public schools. In 1992, Dorothy was the first woman to receive the annual award from the University of Notre Dame’s Orlando Alumna Club for her contributions to the community. John and Dorothy moved back to Bethesda, MD to be closer to their family in 2006. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Potomac, MD at 10:00 AM on February 20, 2017. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Dorothy Kelly’s name to Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of Washington, 924 G Street, Washington D.C. 20001.
