Guestbook and Funeral Services in Maryland

Claire Reimann
Viewing: January 24, 2017 (Tuesday) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Claire Reimann of Clarksburg, MD, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2017. Born in Pittsburgh PA in May 1934, Claire is the elder daughter of Mary Overholt and Dr. Clarence T. Van Meter, and the loving wife of Dr. Curt W. Reimann. Claire and Curt were married for more than 61 years.

Claire is a graduate of Kearny High School (NJ). She attended Drew University (1952-1955), then transferred to the University of Michigan and received her degree in education (1956). She taught 2nd and 3rd grades in Detroit area schools (1956-1959).

A resident of Maryland since 1962, in addition to raising a family, and being a “cat person”, Claire was active in bird rehabilitation. Species included not only backyard birds, but also geese, other aquatic species, and even raptors. One year she worked with 367 birds, featured in a Washington Post profile of her volunteer work.

Claire combined her interests in birds and education by developing and presenting stories for elementary school children, initially in Maryland, and later in Tennessee where Curt holds an adjunct position at Tennessee Tech U. She loved her trips to Tennessee with Curt, and made numerous friends there whom they regard as among their dearest friends ever.

Claire was an avid traveler, visiting many countries in Europe, Asia, and South America. She was particularly interested in owl rehabilitation and research in N. Sweden, and in tracing her family roots in the Netherlands. Memorable, too, were dog sledding and a stay in an ice hotel, in N. Sweden.

Claire gave birth to Curt T. (now in China), Cara J. (Colorado) and Carl S. (Clarksburg, MD). She is survived by her sister, Lois Jean Baker, of PA., her husband and children.

A reception honoring Claire will be held at De Vol Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 24, from 2 PM to 4 PM. De Vol is located at 10 E Deer Park Dr., Gaithersburg, Maryland, 20877, (301) 948-6800.

In lieu of flowers, the Reimanns suggest that memorial contributions be made to Tennessee Tech or to the Owl Research Institute in Charlo, Montana.
