Denise Marie Wenck of Gaithersburg, MD passed away with loved ones at her side on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the age of 54 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her dedicated husband of 27 years, Samuel Wenck; her beloved parents Hugh and Loretta Espey of Pawleys Island, SC; her dear brother Kenneth Espey and his wife Johannah and their son Logan; and her dear sister Stacey Sahady and her husband Earnie and their children, Alexis and Bradley.
Denise started her career life early by begin work at age 12 in her parent�s bakery, Schupps in Chevy Chase. Her love of life and outgoing spirit brightened the day of each of the bakery�s customers that she met.
She graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1980 and from the University of Maryland in 1984 where she majored in Computer Science.
Denise worked for 29 years in the computer software high tech industry beginning at GE Information Services, later becoming GXS where she met her husband when they began work as interns. She rose up the ranks to become a team lead.
After being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2008, Denise was ready for a change of direction and thus began her �second� career in 2012 working at Let�s Move as a Move Project Manager. Her innate organizational abilities and affinity for providing assistance to those preparing for life stage transition were instrumental in her success at her job. She provided valuable insight to her clients during very stressful times but at the same time, Denise said that she learned so much about life from her clients and was herself fulfilled by each one of them.
Denise was an avid golfer, yearly attending the Ladies Golfari in Pine Needles, NC. She enjoyed photography and travelling with husband and parents. Denise dedicated much of her free time in raising funds to find a cure for cancer which she and her husband began participating in various activities many years before she was even diagnosed.
Denise loved life and lived it to the fullest in her brief time here. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially during holiday gatherings. Everyone she met was touched by her kindness and amazing spirit. She was strong and she never flinched from any adversities that she encountered.
Friends may call at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; where her funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held in private.
