On Friday, March 4, 2016 Charles David Paris of Gaithersburg, MD.
Charles David Paris is a story of love and courage. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and as a Forest Ranger with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. On August 14, 1961, his courage and the work he loved mad him part of a fire suppression team fighting forest fires in the remote Oregon wilderness in a place called, "Lightening Gulch."
In the early morning hours he was severely injured by a burning snag (tree top) that fell on him. He survived the ten hour effort as smoke jumpers carried him out on stretcher and transported him to the nearest medical facility in an era with no medevac helicopters, portable radios, paramedics or advanced life saving. His injures ended his career and set his life on a path to numerous surgeries, recovery and rehabilitation.
Peggy Paris is the wife he loved and who loved him. Her care for him for over 50 years gave his family all the memories that we share. He passed away just eleven days fefor their 59th wedding anniversary. He leaves behind a legacy of dreams realized, courage in adversity and a family that dearly loves and misses him.
