Edith Harper Johnson
On the morning of January 21, 2016, Edith Johnson passed away
peacefully. She was being visited and comforted by family and
at the Casey House Hospice in Rockville, MD at the time of
passing. Edith was 87 years old.
Edith Johnson was born in Washington, D.C. on December 22, 1928.
was the only child of John William Harper and Lillian Stolpe

Edith graduated from
McKinley Tech High School and went on to
receive her Masters in
English at George Washington University.
Edith began her career as a
Research Librarian at the Department
of Health, Education, and
Edith and her husband of 59 years, Robert Edward Johnson settled
Silver Spring, MD to raise a family. Edith was also an active
of her community, participating in numerous organizations.
She was a
co-founder of the West Hillandale Women's Association;
served on the
board of HELP of Silver Spring; and was a member of
Congregational Church where she served on the Board of
was an active member and Past Matron of the Order
of The Eastern Star
District of Columbia, Naomi Chapter No. 3.
Her most cherished role in life was that of a loving
mother and doting �Grammy.�
known for the way she made fast friends with everyone she
had the ability to make people feel welcome with her genuine
warmth and compassion. She made a lasting impression on everyone
met and her legacy of love and kindness will live on.
Edith is survived by her husband, Robert Johnson; her
Patterson (Michael), Bruce Johnson, and Stuart
Johnson (Michele); her
grandchildren, Erin Richmond (Ian), Sean
Patterson (Cory), Ryan
Patterson, Lynn Patterson, and Meyer
Johnson; her great-grandchildren,
Ryleigh Adams, Aiden Richmond,
Jacob Patterson, Charleigh Patterson;
and her niece Priscilla
Friends may call at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 on Sunday January 31, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM. Interment: Private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
