On January 11, 2016, Gloria Ann (Rogers) Avedisian passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones after a long and hard fought battle with Alzheimers Disease. Gloria was 85 years old. As a young woman, Gloria was the first female to graduate from the Hartford Insurance Executive Training Program. After graduation, she managed an insurance law firm. However, she dedicated most of her life to helping disadvantaged youths through extensive volunteer efforts with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America where her husband, Archie, held various leadership roles. In addition to being a quiet but unwavering source of strength for Archie, Gloria was a loving and devoted mother to her two children, Debra and Tony. Gloria lived her life for her family and for her God. She also enjoyed golf, card games, and fashion and she always left the house looking her best!
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Archie Avedisian, of Montgomery Village, MD; her daughter and her husband, Deb & Bill Whitelock, of Parkton, MD; her son and his wife, Tony & Chris Avedisian, of Gaithersburg, MD; her grandchildren, Lindsey & Nick Avedisian, both of Gaithersburg, MD; her brother and his wife, Ed & JoAnn Rogers, of Westport, CT; her niece and her husband, Shelly & Gene Byrne, of Westport, CT; and her niece and her husband, Karen & Mark Yingling, of Westport, CT.
A viewing will be held on January 14, 2016 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm at the Devol Funeral Home, 10 E Deer Park Drive in Gaithersburg, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on January 15, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. John Neumann Church, 9000 Warfield Road in Gaithersburg, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Archie and Gloria Avedisian Scholarship Fund, 9832 Meadowcroft Lane, Montgomery Village, MD 20886. This is a charity that was created over fifteen years ago to honor Gloria and her husband, Archie, for their unwavering commitment to rehabilitating and educating underprivileged youth.
