On Tuesday, August 18, 2015, ELAINE ERICKSON WORKINGER, at 90 years of age, died at her home in Gaithersburg, MD. She is the beloved wife of the late Theodore Roy Workinger; mother of Jane W. Farfan and her husband Felix, Gaithersburg, MD, Brian T. Workinger, his wife Penny and their daughter Diane, Rockville, MD, Susan M. Chapman and her family, Hagerstown, MD and the late Bruce Roy and Carol Anne Workinger; Many devoted caregivers, extended family and friends also survive her.
Elaine Workinger was born on August 1, 1925 in Duluth, Minnesota. She enjoyed walking the hills, ice skating, toboganing, playing guitar, and school activities with her friends. Elaine graduated from Gustavus Adolphus, a Lutheran College in St. Peter, MN, with a sociology degree. In 1947, she married Theodore Workinger, of Cudahy, WI, who was at her college in a Navy Pilot Training Program during WWII. Elaine worked as a social worker doing adoptive placement while Ted attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison. From there they moved to Richland, Washington in 1950. Daughters Jane and Susan were born. They relocated to Gaithersburg, MD in 1958. Brian, and his twin, Bruce, were born in 1959. A custom home was built on Henry Drive. A daughter, Carol Anne was born in 1963. She died of cancer in 1966. Later, Elaine became a young grandmother. Elaine enjoyed an active social life, playing bridge, golfing, traveling, cruising, and community service. She was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and liked to say, �It started in my living room.� Her husband, Ted, died on June 4, 1994 at age 67. She thoroughly enjoyed her granddaughter, Diane, who was born in 2004. In the last four years, Elaine was blessed to have devoted caregivers 24/7 in her home. She will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with her beloved husband and her daughter, Carol Anne.
Friends may call at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she was a charter member, 16420 S. Westland Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 on Saturday August 22, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. when the funeral service will begin.
Graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA 22211 on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. Those wishing to attend should assemble at the Administration Building no later than 2:30 p.m. Please provide your own transportation to cemetery.
