Miren Vildosola Alcorta, 82, passed away peacefully Monday, November 26th. She was born November 24, 1936 in Durango, the Basque region of Spain. At the young age of 15 she moved with her immediate family to Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Miren was the oldest of three girls (sisters; Maria Isabel Vildosola Laburu and Maria Pilar Vildosola Fagoaga). There she met and married Joseba Alcorta, a fellow Basque transplant. In 1972 Miren and Jose moved with their two children (John and Arantza) to Washington, D.C., in search of the American dream.  Miren worked many different jobs to give her children the best opportunities, all while instilling in them the importance of faith and hard work.  Later in life, Miren moved back to the Basque country.  She enjoyed visiting the seaside and immersing herself in daily activities.  She was an avid supporter of Catholic ministries and attended services regularly.  She took great pride in her grandchildren, and her Basque heritage. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, going for long walks and helping others.

Miren was predeceased by her husband, Joseba, and parents (Paula Lasuen & Julio Vildosola).     She is survived by son John (Kristen) Alcorta of Arlington, VA; daughter Arantza (Patrick) Murphy of Chevy Chase, MD; and grandchildren Amaya, Jon, Joe, & Alasne Murphy; and Christina, Caroline, Gabriella, IƱaki, & Xavier Alcorta.

A funeral mass will be held at Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Chevy Chase, MD, on Monday, December 3rd at 11am.  A private interment is planned at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spanish Catholic Center
