Adoreen died peacefully on June 26, 2018, at age 81. She was born and raised in Montana and received a Bachelor's Degree from Seattle University and a Masters from Georgetown University. Adoreen had a long career as the Legislative Liaison Officer for the Library of Congress, receiving a number of awards including the Library's highest, the Distinguished Services Award, upon her retirement in 1991. She continued her professional career as a Program Director for the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University. She was a 59-year resident of the Washington, DC area, and an active volunteer in the Catholic Church her entire life. Adoreen is a 2012 recipient of the John Carroll Society Medal for her service to the Society and her example of outstanding lay leadership and commitment to the Faith.
She is survived by her sister Marcia Brown; her 10 nieces and nephews, Sheila Joronen, Warren Helmer Jr., Brian Helmer, Brad Helmer, Burke Helmer, Colette Helmer, Meghan McCormick, Molly Steffen, David "Mac" Brown and Meredith Keltz; and her sister-in-law Julie Norby. Adoreen also leaves behind many grandnieces and grandnephews, and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Walter "Mac" and Cecilia McCormick; her three sisters and brother, Margaret "Peggy" Downey, Sheila Helmer, Burke McCormick, and Maureen McCormick; and her brothers-in-law David Brown and Warren Helmer Sr.
Family and friends may call at the Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland 20816 on Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 10 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Adoreen's life at 11 a.m. Interment at a later date.
