Elizabeth Beach Rea
1930 - 2018
Elizabeth 'Betsy' Rea, a 5th generation Washingtonian and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel F. Beach, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on May 21. Betsy, the quintessential Washingtonian, grew up on 24th Street in the Kalorama neighborhood and attended Mrs. Cook's school (later to become Sheridan School) and Potomac School when it was located on California Street. After graduating from Foxcroft School in 1948, she was married to Patrick David Sterling and together they had four children. Betsy was a working mom in the 1960's as the buyer for Mary Elizabeth Gowns on Connecticut Avenue and later in the real estate business. She was also married to Michael Morehead Rea of Sewickley, PA. Betsy had a vivacious personality and always said her greatest pleasure in life was her wide circle of friends. She was a member of the Colonial Dames, the Sulgrave Club, past chairperson of the Washington Opera Ball and an active member at St. David's Episcopal Church. She is survived by her brother Samuel F. Beach, Jr. of Washington DC, children Elizabeth, Jamie and John Sterling and grandchildren India, Harrison and Cameron Perske of London England, David Sterling in Middleburg VA, Jack and Summer Sterling of Washington DC and Sam Sterling of Alexandria, VA. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, May 31 at 11:00 am at St. David's Church, 5150 Macomb St NW, Washington DC. Betsy will be interred at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown next to her firstborn son, Patrick David 'Ricky' Sterling, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to Foxcroft School, 22407 Foxhound Ln, Middleburg, VA 20117.
