Frank Hampton Lennox
Frank H. Lennox of Washington, DC died of cancer on August 10, 2017. He was 74. Frank was born in Highland Park, IL to Frank H. Lennox, Sr. and Janet Willard Lennox. He was a Senior Program Officer for many years at Meridian International Center where he planned visits to the United States for the State Department International Visitor Leadership Program. Many of his programs dealt with energy and entrepreneurship. Frank especially enjoyed his programs on interfaith understanding and combatting violent extremism.
Earlier, he spent 12 years as a financial analyst for Bechtel Power and Bechtel Telecommunications. In this capacity he visited many countries around the world, including the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Argentina, Indonesia, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Much earlier in his career he taught history at St. Lawrence University.
Frank held a PhD in European and Asian History from the University of Wisconsin, an M.A. in International Business Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and a B.A. from DePauw University. He also studied at the London School of Economics and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Nunnelee of Washington, DC, a son, Jonathan Lennox of Jersey City, NJ by a previous marriage to Sara Jane King, two sisters, Margaret Howley of Canton, OH and Janet Simmons of Durham, NH, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Frank and Ellen would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Michael A. Carducci of Johns Hopkins for giving Frank many happy, extra years.
In lieu of flowers Frank wished any contributions, if desired, be made to Samaritan Ministry, 1516 Hamilton St., NW, Washington, DC 20011 or a charity of choice.
A memorial service will be held at the Palisades Community Church at 5200 Cathedral Avenue, NW in Washington, DC, where Frank and Ellen were married in 1988, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 26, 2017. The service will be followed by a reception in the church Fellowship Hall immediately afterward.
A private burial is planned for a later time.
