Frances Vaeth Spencer
Age 88, of Washington, DC, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2017. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Sidney Spencer and her 7 children: Anne (Rickie) Ellis, Edward (Cheryl) Spencer, Padraic (Sarah) Spencer, Monica (Bobbie) Bell, Frank Spencer, David (Linda) Spencer, and Michael (Grace) Spencer. She also leaves behind her seven cherished grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Frances was born in Kansas City, Missouri and grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She attended college at Loretto Heights in Denver, Colorado, where she met her beloved Sidney; they then got married in Washington, DC in 1951. Due to her husbands career they moved and lived in numerous places from Schenectady to Syracuse, NY, then to Daytona Beach, FL, Potomac, MD, Wilton, CT, and then back to Washington, DC where they then retired.
While living in Schenectady, Frances was very active in volunteering with Senior Citizens. She was an active volunteer at Georgetown University Hospital, serving a term as President for the Ladies Board. She was also a volunteer for numerous organizations including assisting the Malades for the Order of Malta, on pilgrimages to Lourdes, France. They also traveled extensively in the US and around other parts of the world including Antarctica.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3513 N St. NW, Washington, DC on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Department of mission and Pastoral Care at Georgetown University Hospital, 3800 Reservoir Road, NW,Washington DC 20057.
