Nina M. Whiteley
Nina M. Whiteley, 79, died on March 15th 2017, peacefully in her home in
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Annunciation
Catholic Church, 3810 Massachusetts Ave NW, at 11 a.m.
A celebration of her
life will follow.
Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover,
Born April 1, 1937 in Newark, NJ, to George and Helen, Nina graduated
salutatorian of South Side High School before attending Seton Hall University.
She moved to the Washington DC area in 1965.
Nina joined the Central Intelligence Agency in that year and retired after more
than 30 years of service.
While serving her country abroad, she developed a
love of travel, food, and foreign cultures – especially during her time in Portugal,
Turkey, and Italy – forging friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Never far from a newspaper, Nina enjoyed discussing politics and dissecting
She had a sharp mind with a keen eye for detail. She loved
reading, the theater, walking in the city, and sitting down for a good meal and a
glass of wine with friends or family.
Nina will be remembered for her beauty, elegance, and grace - an independent
and adventurous spirit with a kind and generous heart that touched all those
who met her.
She was a loving and devoted sister and aunt, a perceptive and
insightful mentor, and a thoughtful and dependable friend.
Nina is survived by her sister, Patricia Whiteley Rourke; her niece, Meagan
Waters, and her husband, Todd; her nephew, Matthew Rourke, and his wife,
Kimberly; and her grandnieces
