SHEEHY VINCENT A. SHEEHY, III
Vincent Alphonsus Sheehy, III, 88, of McLean, VA passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017. He was born on July 26, 1928 in Washington, DC to Vincent A. Sheehy, Jr. and Naomi Connick Sheehy and was raised in Hyattsville, MD. A 3rd generation graduate of Gonzaga College High School (Class of 1946), Vincent went on to graduate from Catholic University (Phi Beta Kappa, B.A. Philosophy, Class of 1951). After Catholic, he served in the Marine Corps until 1953, then joined his father in the automobile business at Handley Ford. Vincent married Helen McKenna in 1954 and settled in Bethesda, MD, where they raised their five children within the St. Bartholomew Catholic community. In 1966, he went into business on his own when he founded Sheehy Ford in Marlow Heights, MD. He served as Chairman of Sheehy Auto Stores for the next 51 years providing a unique blend of leadership, intelligence, wit and guidance. Vincent was a parishioner at St. Luke Catholic Church in McLean, VA where he enthusiastically sang in the choir for over 20 years. After his children were grown, Vincent and Helen divided their time between McLean and Beaver Creek, CO, where they enjoyed music, skiing, golf and close friendships within the Vail Valley. A devoted musician who played the piano and sang almost daily, a life-long learner and a voracious reader, Vincent had special interests in the arts, travel, education and serving the needy. Among others, Vincent generously supported and served Catholic University/Metropolitan School of Professional Studies, Gonzaga College High School, Georgetown Visitation, Washington Hospital Center, Archbishop Carroll High School, Missionaries of Charity, the Washington Opera and the Vail Valley Foundation. Vincent is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen; and his five children, Vincent (Mimi) Sheehy, Patricia (Geoff) Malloy, Paul (Nicole) Sheehy, Betsy Sheehy, and Ann (Brand) Fowler; 15 grandchildren; sisters Mary Ann Kiley Shugars, Mary Jane Moffett, Maria Crellin and Giovanna Riley; and his loving nieces, nephews and many close friends. He was one of a kind, generating laughter everywhere he went and he will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7001 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22101 with a funeral mass at St. Luke to follow at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to Missionaries of Charity DC, 2800 Otis St. NW, Washington DC 20018, or Gonzaga College High School, Attn: The VINCO Educational Fund, 19 Eye St. NW Washington, DC 20001.
