On July 25, 2015, Bill Ryan, 79, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Providence, RI, he was a longtime Washington, DC resident and the former Deputy Director of Communications at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, where he devoted a career spanning more than 40 years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary, their children, Mary (Gus), Eileen (Jim), Bill (Jennifer), Sheila (Pramod), Clare (Patrick), Jim (Jacqui), Colleen (Ryan), Dee, and Cara (Walid), and their grandchildren, Charlie, Kathleen, Will, Maeve, Michael, Naveen, Grace, Jack, and Ronan. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Duffy Chapel, Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 3630 Quesada St., NW, Washington, DC 20015. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the main church at Blessed Sacrament on Saturday, August 1, at 11 a.m., with interment following mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20906. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's name to the Knights of Columbus Christian Refugee Relief, which offers humanitarian aid to persecuted Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East.
