Matthew Najjar passed from this life to eternal life on June 10, 2020 at the age of 84. The son of the late Najma and Francis Najjar, Matthew came from Mosul (Nineveh), Iraq to the US in 1960, where he studied at Morgan State University. He later worked as a statistician for the US Government for over 40 years. In his free time, Matthew served as a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels, enjoyed working out at the local senior center, and took daily walks around his neighborhood, where he made several lifelong friends.
An educator at heart, Matthew fearlessly led countless people to the Lord through his teaching of The Word. Affectionately known as “Konky Matt” by his nieces and nephews, he left a lasting legacy of emulating the characteristics of a Godly man.
His daughters, Kathleen (Fran) Catanzarite and Laurie (Kevin) Rivers, along with his grandchildren Gracie, Alex, Michael, Audrey and Ian, consider themselves truly blessed to have called him father and grandfather. He adored and boasted of his children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Additionally, Matthew had a beautiful church family whom he loved dearly. His presence will be missed at First Baptist Church Rockville as he joins the choir of angels with a perfectly pitched singing voice.
Matthew leaves behind siblings Anisa, Barbara, Ben and Hann along with their families and several dear nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Naomi, Shami, and Sabrina.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Matthew's name to "Meals on Wheels America" online, or to “Gideons International”, First Baptist Church of Rockville, 55 Adclare Rd. Rockville, MD 20850.
A private burial service will be held in Fayetteville, NY. A celebration of Matthew’s life will be held at First Baptist Church of Rockville when Montgomery County Churches open up again.
