Mario I. Austria, former groundskeeper and commercial bus driver for Towson University, has died at 72. He is the beloved father of Amanda Austria, Baltimore, MD, Summer Austria Greenway Baltimore, MD and the late Mario Austria Jr. He is the son of the late Rizalina and Francisco Austria, Sr. the dear brother of Julita Afable, Gaithersburg, MD, Rizalino Austria, Huntington, MD, Antonio Austria, Potomac, MD and the late Rosalina Maclang, Corazon Austria, Isabel Foltz, Estela Bensinger, Agustina Austria and Francisco Austria, Jr.
Mr. Austria was born in the Philippines to an extremely humble family. He was the second to youngest of 11 siblings. He immigrated to the United States in the 70's with much of the Austria family. Once here, they built an honest love-filled life for themselves throughout Maryland.
Those that knew him would say he was "a good time". He loved playing cards and mahjong, fishing, camping, was a certified scuba diver, and loved going on adventures. He was a wonderful father, uncle, and brother.
Despite experiencing a life changing bicycle accident in his 40's, he remained a kind soul. He loved watching baseball, feeding birds, petting animals, children, and most importantly EATING.
Mr. Austria had an unforgettable aura and ability to make others smile. He will be missed deeply.
Services will be held on Tuesday July 7, 2020 from 10:00am-11:00am to 10 of his closest family members and via zoom. Interment will follow (max 50 people) in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
