Ines Gonzales, 92, of Kensington, was discovered deceased at her new residence, The Clinton Manor Senior Citizen Independent Living apartment, on Monday, June 29, 2020.
Ines was born in Veracruz, Mexico on January 16, 1928. She was raised in Mexico City by a member of her family, Mama Maria, due to loss of her parents when she was young. She came to the U.S. by bus on July 4, 1953 and settled in Washington D.C where she worked as housekeeping at a hospital, and soda plant in Silver Spring, and then worked at the National Conference of Catholic Bishops from 1972 to 1993. She would eventually meet and marry Miguel Balalong Gonzales, a former U.S. Navy Sailor who settled in Washington D.C. In April 13, 1964, Ines gave birth to her one and only son, Gregory Patrick Gonzales. In 1969, the Gonzales family moved out from Washington D.C. and moved in the Brookmont area of Bethesda, MD up until 1975, then later to Kensington Maryland where they finally settled in for the rest of her life until her most recent move in April 30th to Clinton Maryland.
Ines was known as a religious, but energetic woman, who loved working outdoors and enjoyed long walks. She enjoyed meeting and talking with many people around her. She also enjoyed going out for a ride around Maryland and Washington D.C., visiting museums with her son. Even after the death of her husband, she continued to be energetic and independent, caring for her son and refusing to remarry.
She will be deeply missed by her son, daughter-in-law (Liria), grandson (Miguel), and her three nephews, sons of her departed sister, and their wives (Tony & Kathy, Jose Albert & Susan along with their children Jose Jr. and Irisaa, and Lorenzo & Elizabeth).
