Guestbook and Funeral Services in Maryland

Charles S. Mack
Service: Services and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

Charley Mack’s career spanned over 40 years of corporate and association management. He was past president of the Business-Industry Political Action Committee, a group that seeks to improve the political climate in America for the business community. He is also the author of five books: Lobbying and Government Relations: A Guide for Executives, The Executive's Handbook of Trade and Business Associations: How They Work--And How to Make Them Work Effectively for You, Business Strategy for an Era of Political Change, Business, Politics, and the Practice of Government Relations and When Political Parties Die: A Cross-National Analysis of Disalignment and Realignment.

A graduate of Haverford College, Charley’s retirement project was to return to graduate school. At the age of 74, he earned a PhD in Political Science from Catholic University. He loved learning and liked to say that he wasn’t earning a degree so he could get a job – he was earning it for pleasure and to keep his mind active. He loved being called Dr. Mack but was quick to inform new acquaintances that he wasn’t that kind of a doctor. He enjoyed the political process and he especially loved discussing (some might call it arguing) it with people who had different opinions.

He was an educated man per the definition of Harl R. Douglass, with a broad understanding of many subjects. He was an avid reader and his book collection spans history, politics, science fiction, and any subject that caught his fancy. He loved classical music and amassed a collection of more than 5,000 CDs. Neighbors could tell when Charley was playing his stereo because “the house shook.”

He enjoyed spending time at the University Club in Washington, DC, and served on its board for seven years. He appreciated the arts and was a past president of the Olney Theatre.

He was man larger than life, full of wit and humor, and devoted to his family, especially his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.

He will be missed.

Services and A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
