JAMES FRANCIS BERMINGHAM
Died January 28, 2016. Born April 4, 1939 to Bridget and Joseph Bermingham of Brooklyn, New York. Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Susan Ellen Bermingham; and his loving son, James Francis Bermingham, Jr. He was predeceased by his daughter, Rachel Ellen Bermingham in December 2002. Jim graduated from St. John''s University in New York City. His 35 years of service at the Department of State in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security culminated with his appointment to the Senior Foreign Service. He served in Bonn, Germany; Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Caracas, Venezuela, Vienna, Austria, San Salvador, El Salvador, along with postings in Washington, DC. After his retirement in June 1995, he became the Director or Corporate Security for Eastman Chemical Company. He remained with Eastman until 2004, when he suffered a major stroke. Jim was a loving and devoted husband and father. He will be missed beyond measure. Jim was an avid sportsman. He played baseball in college and participated in many sports throughout his life. His many interests included politics, history, geography, world events, language and other cultures. He loved his work and his co-workers in Diplomatic Security. He especially loved his loyal friend and fellow special agent, Richard Gannon. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Holy Trinity Church, 35th & O Sts., N.W., Wednesday, February 3 at 12 Noon. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the many people at The Washington Home who lovingly helped him through the most difficult period of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diplomatic Security Special Agents Fund at the Department of State.
