Eleanor Welch Sena (age 92) passed away peacefully Thursday evening June 9th at 6:45 pm. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Dec. 15, 1923. She attended UrsulineAcademy and Notre Dame Women?s college in Cleveland. After losing both parents at a young age, Mrs. Sena and her sister, Mary Eileen Welch, became Foreign Service officers in 1948 and began a career serving in numerous posts overseas. Eleanor married Ray Sena, Jr. on Oct. 17, 1959 in Beirut, Lebanon. They served in numerous overseas posts before returning to Washington, DC in 1974. She was a member of St. Ann?s Catholic Church in Washington. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, her sister and her husband and one grandchild. Her family includes two cousins, Betsy Welch of Boston, MA and Mary (James) Stiles of California and four children: Barbara Sena Hosenfeld and husband Leo of Albuquerque, NM; Michael G. Sena and wife, Patricia of Jacksonville, FL; Stephen D. Sena and wife Janet, Springfield, VA and Patrick R. Sena of Santa Clara, CA; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
There will be a 30 minute viewing prior to the start of Mass. A funeral Mass will be offered at St. Ann?s Church Wisconsin Ave. at Yuma St. , N.W. on Friday, June 17th at 12 Noon. There will be an additional Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Thursday June 23 at 11am in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Internment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Thursday, June 23 at 12:45 P.M. Memorials to be sent to Little Sisters of the Poor 4200 Harewood Road, N.E., Washington, DC 20017.
