Her interest in birds led to a 15-year career as an instructor in bird identification for the Montgomery County adult education department, which included weekly bird walks. She also taught bird identification at Montgomery College. In addition, she was a licensed bird bander for 20 years, served as Vice President and as a director of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Maryland Ornithological Society, and led bird walks for MOS and other groups.
