She earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with a major in Spanish from Clarion State College in 1975.   Martha taught three levels of high school Spanish to seminarians studying for the priesthood or brotherhood in the Capuchin Order of Franciscans at St. Fidelis Seminary from 1976 to 1980, and one year of Spanish at South Butler High School in Butler, PA.  In 1981 Martha joined IBM as a secretary and soon was promoted to market analyst for IBM’s Government Solutions division, where she was a lead analyst supporting market management deployment across IBM’s Government Industry. She later was program manager for Sales Learning and lastly as Global Initiative Owner of the Master Deal Making Program, where she worked on the development and deployment of the program since it began in 2003 and served as its global owner until her retirement in December 2015. This program was for IBM's top-shelf sellers from all business units of the company and from all locations around the world.  After retiring from IBM, Martha became an associate for special projects for the Council for Major Superiors of Men, where she was project manager for the first-ever Brothers Symposium for 250 attendees at the University of Notre Dame. She also wrote and posted web articles and photos for more than 20 different Catholic organizations, including communities of religious brothers and diocesan priests. She retired from the organization in 2018.  Martha was also a dedicated volunteer throughout her life, including five years on the board of the Spanish Catholic Center, serving as its president for two years. She was a volunteer for the Center’s Project Thanksgiving, which provided dinners for needy families who were clients of the Center in Gaithersburg, MD.  Martha also edited a collection of poems and paintings by her dear friend Fr. Pascal Schaller, OFM, Cap.

In honor of her dedication and benevolence towards the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, and towards the Province of St. Augustine in particular, Martha was made an affiliate of the Order in July 1999.   Martha was a communicant at St. Martin’s Church in Gaithersburg, serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and lector for weekend Mass and special liturgies, and she also was a lector at daily Masses at Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, MD.

Martha was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Brown Nestich and stepmother Elizabeth Nestich; and her godparents, Mike and Marge Nestich. She is survived by four sisters: Donna Piroga of Hermitage, PA; Susan Williamson, wife of Mark Williamson, of Sharon, PA; Mary Schreiner, wife of Michael Schreiner, of Lititz, PA; and Nancy Griffin, wife of Michael Griffin, of Colton, NY. Also, she is survived by four nephews and one niece as well as two grandnephews. Martha was also a devoted godmother to Christy Newcamp of Quarryville, PA and James Schreiner of Reading, PA.
