Mark Joseph Dubnick of Washington Grove, Maryland passed away June 22, 2017. Born July 29, 1954 in Oak Park Illinois to John and Phyllis (Bauer) Dubnick. Mark married Margaret Cavenagh on June 23, 1979 in their home town Oak Park, Illinois. Theirs was a marriage of special love recognized by their many friends are large extended family. The University of Illinois is Mark’s undergraduate alma mater where he was awarded the honor of membership in Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. A Molecular Biologist and later a Computational Biologist, most of Mark’s career was with the National Institutes of Health.
Discovering a latent talent in creative writing he became an active member of the Washington Grove Writers Group eventually assuming the role of coordinator. Mark had an incomparable sense of humor fueled by his extensive vocabulary and knowledge in areas ranging from science to history, poetry and more. His infectious laugh will cheer our hearts for years to come. The Montgomery County Library System benefited from Mark’s decades of volunteer service tutoring blind patrons to use computers.
Mark is survived by his wife Margaret (Margo) Cavenagh, brother Harry Dubnick (Gia Petrilli), sister Sister Hildegard Dubnick, O.S.B., brother-in-law C. Allen Reed, nieces Julia and Barbara Dubnick, and many extended family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents Phyllis and John Dubnick and old sister Andrea Dubnick (C. Allen Reed).
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Thursday June 29, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Naperville, Illinois.
